Kundapur, Nov 26: Even as teachers in the taluk are putting additional efforts at providing extra curricular education and supplement the present system of imparting education towards improving the standards of Kannada medium schools, more stone edicts, documents written in palmyra, and other forms recorded in ancient script are being unearthed.

In one such rare find, a tenth standard student named Sriraksha, son of Rajeev Shetty from Adakekodlu Hebbagilu House in Vandse village in the taluk has found a bundle of palmyra leaves containing ancient Kannada script in his house. It is appears to contain mythology expressed in verse form.

As part of education that is supplemental to the text books, students of the government high school at Haklady here have begun a campaign aimed at searching for ancient scriptures in any form including palmyra, stone, wood, earthen pots, and other forms. During one such search, Sriraksha found an ancient book written in palymyra in beautiful handwriting. A look at the work gives the feel that it is an verse novel on some mythology.

Because of the fact that the work was created long back, and it was not maintained well, the entire work is in dilapidated state. Experts having in-depth knowledge about the ancient scripts and works can alone throw more light on this find,which one hopes, will add to the richness of Kannada.
