Mangaluru: Passenger caught with gold worth Rs 12.61 lac hidden in footwear

Mangaluru, Nov 25: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Tuesday November 25 seized 474.600 grams of gold valued at Rs 12,61,076.

The gold was in the form of four numbers of ten tola gold bars and a gold coin concealed in the sandals worn by a passenger, who arrived from Dubai.

The passenger Hamsa Ameer, aged about 26 years, is a resident of Chandragiri, Kasaragod

Ameer arrived at Mangalore International Airport November 25 at about 08.40 hours by Jet Airways Flight No 9W531 from Dubai.

Further investigation is under progress.

    Why the customs people are harassing aam aadmi for a few tolas of gold when the politicians are the biggest smugglers and looters? Do the customs people check the politicians shoes and underwear or only aam aadmi's? Aam aadmi buys gold with hard earned money. Politicians buy gold with ill gotten gains

    Majority of gold smugglers are from Kasargod and they simply spoil their State name.

    I am sure these are just carriers-working for commission. Bcos of these guys all innocent passengers get inconvenienced too.
    All are trying to make money quickly without any due consideration for the law. Bring in Gold and take out drugs. thats their business

    Police never disclose who is the master mind behind the smuggling, poor passenger get caught every time go to jail for two months and get released and people will forget the case and police too by taking under the table.

    It appears that these poor fellows from Kasargod are simple couriers who risk arrest for a paltry sum to bring the gold. Until and unless Government reduces import tariff to make gold prices in India comparable to that of international market, this modus operandi of smuggling will continue.

    for your information mr, shah,as a muslim in our religion we dont allow to do baddi (interest ) business,but now a days everythings are expensive,so some muslim people want to make money double with risk,they invest on gold ,i think its not theft gold,smuggling kiya chori toh nahi kiya,kisi ka pet pe nahi mara, uska paisa uska kismat,,,duniyawalon ko fikr,taklif mein rahega toh koi dene wala toh nahi,pakda jayega toh uska mehnat ka paisa karke bolne wala bhi nahi,itnapaisa kamane ke liye kitna saal apne family ko chod ke raha hoga allah jaane.....

    i agree with you,but not much, why smuggling repeats again and again,did you think about this,because our law is simple,if they sieze a passport,and life long ban to go abroad,then automatically it stops,its like if any one kill a person in india,within a week or within a month he gets bail and out of jail and he is ready to do another murder,bcs he knows nothing will happened to him,if make law like gulf country people will think to kill anybody understand my dear,it is also like that only,ten passed one caught, money goes to officers not to govt...

    A true mulsim is one who obeys and abide by the laws of the land and loves his home land...the law should not be contradictory to the devine laws..like forcing some one to worship other than creator... but here, smuggling is not allowed...so its illegal like smuggling of drugs is not allowed in gulf countries...As a citizen its duty of the muslims to obey the rules and regulations first...A ture muslim should submit to the laws of the land unless its against the tenets of Quran...Quran doesn't teach or encourage smuggling.. muslim means submission to the will of creator..Allah commands us to be dutiful to the land in which we are born... so please follow the laws of the land ... that's it

    Looks like people who smuggle gold through various schemes are mentally disturbed. Also note that Majority of gold smugglers are from Kasargod and it looks to be they are mentally disturbed people. They need counselling as soon as possible.
