Mangalore, Nov 16: A 19-year-old-boy, accused of stealing ornaments from the vanity bag of a woman at Kankanady railway station here somedays ago has now been arrested by Mulki police on Tuesday November 14 night The police have recovered stolen valuables from him.
The arrested has been identified as Raghavendra (19), a native of Renjadakatte near Theerthahalli. He was working as coolie in the city. He had friendship with a young woman who was living near BMC Hostel at Lingapayyakadu near Mulki. He used often visit her. Of recent, he had started spending a lot of money about which certain people raised a doubt. They even informed Mulki police about Raghavendra's lavish spending.
Having a kept a close eye on his day-to-day movements, the police nabbed him on Tuesday night and seized several ornaments which he had stolen from Kankanady railway station on November 1.
The theft had taken place on November 1 night on Mangala Express train (2617). An unknown person had stolen the vanity bag from Margao resident Pramod Kumar Shetty's wife's possession. The bag was snatched through window while she was sleeping. Though a complaint in this regard was filed with railway police, no progress had been achieved in the case.
The police have seized Rs 23,000 in cash, 2 bangles, a necklace, and 50 grams of gold. The police are yet to recover 23 grams of gold which he had sold. Raghavendra has already been produced before the Moodbidri court.
