Mangalore, Nov 16: In the backdrop of recent untoward happenings in the region, there is a healthy development in the form of a new forum of fraternity, which was officially launched on Wednesday, November 15.

The forum is open to all faiths and communities and is aimed at building a bond of trust and harmony amongst various castes, creeds and communities.

Every aspect of the programme symbolized unity among various religions. Subrahmanya gave the introductory remarks and also later introduced the office-bearers of the forum. A meaningful invocation was rendered by Sandesh, Zakir and Winnie D'Souza.

Five mothers from different communities jointly lit the lamp to mark the inauguration. They were Stella Noronha Kulshekar, S Jyoti Moodushedde, Vasanti Suvarna Mangalore, Aisha Amma Mangalore and Saraswati Amma Balmatta.

Guests of honour St Aloysius College lecturer Judy Pinto and Mohammed Baddoor delivered lectures on unity and harmony.

Mangalore Institute of Fashion Technology's founder-president M G Hegde delivered the presidential address.

Vice president Sushil Noronha proposed a vote of thanks.
