Mangaluru, Nov 21: BJP leader and former Karnataka chief minister Jagadish Shettar on Friday November 21 slammed the state Congress government for its 'inefficiency' and 'administrative failure' on various issues and said that the BJP would hold a massive protest on December 9 over this.
He was in the city to inaugurate the office of BJP membership drive located within the BJP district office premises. Addressing a press meet after the inauguration, he said BJP national president Amit Shah has started a nationwide membership drive and people in Mangaluru too should join the party.
Condeming the state government over various issues, he said, "When BJP was in power, it announced the formation of 43 taluks, but the present government has failed to implement this move and also failed to appoint staff for the new taluks. The state government has been giving only assurances. It is not implementing this move because the credit would then go to BJP."
"We had announced Moodbidri, Kadaba and Brahmavar among the 43 new taluks, but the plan has not been executed. We will hold a protest against the government over this," he added.
"The condition today is such that we do not know if there is any government at all. The development works at present are all those that were initiated by the BJP during its five years' tenure. There has been no new development work in one-and-a-half years and the administration has come to a standstill," he said.
"The chief minister has lost control over the administration. His own government officials are not listening to him," Shettar added.
Referring to the Thirthahalli case in which young Nandita had died mysteriously, he said, "The accused in Nandita case has not even been identified. Though the case has been given to the CID, there has been no progress at all.
"Rape cases are repeating in the captial. Also, one year ago a woman was attacked in an ATM, but the accused is still at large. It shows the failure of the home department.
Demanding the resignation of home minister K J George, he said, "The government is inefficient and K J George should resign. BJP will hold a massive protest demanding his resignation."
He also demanded the sacking of 'tainted' ministers Dinesh Gundurao and Qamarul Islam and said, "Dinesh Gundurao has encroached 10 acres of land. He has no moral right to continue as minister. Qamarul Islam also misused his position."
"As many as 32 lac BPL cards have been cancelled, which shows the failure of administration. The government is not doing anything for the poor. Even Motamma and speaker Kagodu Thimappa have raised voice against the inefficiency of the government," he added.
He also condemned the government for failing to take action against illegal mining and sand mafia and alleged that political leaders too were involved in this.
"The BJP will hold a massive protest during the Belagavi session on December 9 against the failure of the state government. Over one lac protestors will join us," Shettar informed.
Asked to comment on the controversy surrounding the 'Kiss of Love' campaign in Bengaluru, Shettar condemned the campaign and said, "It is against the Indian culture. The government should deny permission to hold this campaign."
