Bengaluru: Umashree opposes 'Kiss of Love' campaign, writes to K J George

Bengaluru, Nov 21 (DHNS): Expressing serious reservations against holding the “Kiss of Love” campaign in the City, Kannada & Culture Minister Umashree said that such public display of affection is “against our culture”.

In a letter to Home Minister K J George on Thursday, Umashree said the organisers have given a call to hold the campaign on November 29 to protest against moral policing.

“But young men and women kissing in public is against our culture. Love and physical action like kissing are personal. Such things should be within the four walls and not be displayed in public,” she said.

Her views are diametrically opposite to those of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who said on Wednesday that the government will give permission for the campaign provided there is no violation of the law.

Explaining how the campaign could attract police action, Umashree said obscene acts in public are punishable under Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code.

Such events are a public embarrassment and mislead school and college students. They finally lead to social unrest and sexual offences, Umashree said.

Obscene celebrations cannot be encouraged under the garb of freedom of expression as guaranteed under the Constitution, the minister added.

Excuse me madam Umashree!!! Can you please define 'Indian Culture'? And also clarify regarding Obscenity and vulgarity. Because back in the 90's you were playing one of the most vulgar and obscene roles in Kannada Film Industry. And as back as 1983, Everybody remembers 'Anubhava' opposite Kashinath!!! Please dont judge others on the basis of your Political Power. Kiss of Love is an overt expression of love between couples, and it is held as a mark of protest against 'Moral Policing' by hooligans.

Wake up madam dont try to defend this, its not our culture to bring such things to public just to protest and embarass the people who dint want such development. If you have to protest please go and sit for indefinite fast not such protest.

What is this Kiss of Love? Many new ideas are coming in the mind of Bangaloreans. Any kissing should be in the four walls of the house. Why our children are longing to western culture. Their parents should always keep a watch on their children. There is no law to curtain this new culture. So the police are spectators.

Moral Police should be there in each and every individual and not only to certain group. But should not take law into hand which disturb the peoples personal life. Everyone should oppose what is wrong and act at the time if any wrong doing and inform police instead of taking law into hand. Due to this mistake itself hindu organization lost its name and get blamed for any wrong things happening in our surroundings. IF we see anything wrong happening to our brothers and sisters it has to be warned or inform the right channel to take action instead of harming people. In my view Moral police should not be for only to a particular group but each and every citizen should think its our people and see nothing wrong happens in our society. But our society ignores as it is nothing to do with us and later complain the groups who does it but opposing their actions should not harm any individuals and their feelings.

By the way where are these moral chaddi police, when rapes happen and women are being humiliated and taunted in public? instead of bothering of silly things like this, cant they see other serious issues in our society? This is just plain jealousy that makes them do like this. instead of peeping and going behind the couples who kiss and hug, I think they could rather do something useful for the society like keeping our city clean and planting more trees. or at least find solution for our waste deposition problem.

at least now she is woken up. Whole world was looking at her why she was so silent during so many rapes in bangalore. At least she showed her presence today. Yes, this kiss of love drive should be stopped immediately. We are not fo that culture to do all these private things in public. Those who want to do that they can go to western countries where it's allowed. Please don't let them spoil our culture please. It's time to regain the respect and cultural values which we have lost all these years. Definitley not the time to spoil our country image with such stupid and nasty acts. Who ever, whether it's CM, whether it Home Minister or whether our Culture minister... please stop this nonsence drive.
