Mangaluru, Nov 19: On a tip-off given by the immigration authorities of Mangalore International Airport, the officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday November 19 busted another modus operandi of gold smuggling and seized gold weighing 1816.550 grams totally valued at Rs 48,32,023, in two separate cases.
In the first case, the officers seized gold in the form of seven numbers of ten tola gold bars, concealed in innerwear from the possession of a lady passenger named Khairun Gulam Mahamad Shekh, aged about 48 years, wife of Ali Mohammed, residing at Sutrapada, Junagadh.
Gold totally weighing 816.550 grams and valued at Rs 21,72,023 was seized from her. She arrived at Mangalore International Airport on November 19 at about 0745 hours by Air India Express flight No IX814 from Dubai.
In a similar modus operandi on the same day, the officers seized gold in the form of a one kilo gold bar, valued at Rs 26,60,000, concealed in innerwear from the possession of another lady passenger named Mariyomma Ottapokkil, aged about 48 years, a resident of Kozhikode. She arrived at Mangalore International Airport on November 19 at about 0845 hours by Jet Airways flight No 9W531 from Dubai.
Both the said lady passengers were later arrested and produced before the judicial magistrate.
Further investigation in both the cases is under progress.
