Mangaluru: Two ladies caught smuggling gold in innerwear at airport

Media Release

Mangaluru, Nov 19: On a tip-off given by the immigration authorities of Mangalore International Airport, the officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Wednesday November 19 busted another modus operandi of gold smuggling and seized gold weighing 1816.550 grams totally valued at Rs 48,32,023, in two separate cases.

In the first case, the officers seized gold in the form of seven numbers of ten tola gold bars, concealed in innerwear from the possession of a lady passenger named Khairun Gulam Mahamad Shekh, aged about 48 years, wife of Ali Mohammed, residing at Sutrapada, Junagadh.

Gold totally weighing 816.550 grams and valued at Rs 21,72,023 was seized from her. She arrived at Mangalore International Airport on November 19 at about 0745 hours by Air India Express flight No IX814 from Dubai.

In a similar modus operandi on the same day, the officers seized gold in the form of a one kilo gold bar, valued at Rs 26,60,000, concealed in innerwear from the possession of another lady passenger named Mariyomma Ottapokkil, aged about 48 years, a resident of Kozhikode. She arrived at Mangalore International Airport on November 19 at about 0845 hours by Jet Airways flight No 9W531 from Dubai.

Both the said lady passengers were later arrested and produced before the judicial magistrate.

Further investigation in both the cases is under progress.

Guys I was travelling yesterday on a flight and was surprised by a scene. I thought they were molesters but later came to understand that they were thieves. There is scanning going on in all the angles now in the wake of above incident.

As someone was telling yesterday in Kasargod, there is an university to teach all these things. There must be more reservation also for minorities.

If you make seperate flights to Kasargod, the smugglers make a flight out of gold and after it lands in Kasargod, they put the flight for name sake auction and sell it for Rs. 1/- to the kingpin of the whole nexus.

Why we have to pin point traders, business people. Crime is a crime. Possible it is a well-organized modus operandi but who will risk unless there is profit sharing. It is a racket.

Emigration is getting Tip off from Passenger departed airport emigration officials. in Dubai it not illegal to take the gold out from country. but while taking it out if you hide and take it shows the person is taking in to his country with out disclosure to customs.

check the homes /property of all customs officials.... immigration officers..and see if their WEALTH is proportional to the salaries....
this all HOG WASH ..catch one and ten go scot free.
