Puttur: Gas leakage following tanker accident at Nekkilady

Puttur, Nov 19: Gas leakage was reported after an LPG tanker met with an accident at Nekkilady on Uppinangady-Mangalore stretch here on Wednesday November 19.

A gas tanker plying towards Mangalore rolled over near a petrol pump, reportedly due to high speed, causing minor injuries to the driver and the cleaner.

Following the accident, a small amount of gas leakage was reported, and immediately steps were taken to bring the situation under control.

The highway was closed and all vehicles coming towards Mangalore were diverted through another route.

Fire personnel rushed to the spot and managed to bring the leakage under control.

An MRPL tanker was also rushed to the spot to transfer the LPG from the vehicle and prevent further leakage.

    Hundreds of vehicles carrying dangerous chemicals and petroleum products like diesel, LPG etc on Highway 66. These are all Bombs moving on road. Slight carelessness of the driver or technical problem in those vehicles may result in serious consequences including loss of lives and property. It is high time Government take note of this and implement transportation of all those dangerous products only through pipes passed through underground.

    Our government is still in sleep instead of spending on useless projects why they are not taking any action on making pipeline for the transportation of this gas I think that this political people are waiting for another accident so that they can make money in the name of compensation

    The government should also consider a bypass road that will directly connect base of shiradi ghat to mangalore port bypassing mangalore and bantwal towns.This will ease the traffic woes in these two places and at the same time sparing these towns of likely disasters what with all that petroleum and gas passing thru on those scary bullet tankers.

    " Just look at out LPG tanker "
    its look like, it may be 1879 model.

    Look at the tyres,all flat, old engine, without tail lamps etc etc..

    no one cares,which vehicle is transporting highly flammable gas that vehicle should in good condition.

    Timely action by fire brigade and other swift action must have controlled yet another major disaster(inferno)!

    These state highways are often becoming death trap for the people and danger to the surroundings.

    Instead of harassing people in the name of checking why dont police open their eyes to check this speeding tankers. They are now a real danger for commuters as well as the people near to highways
