Udupi, Nov 11: The much-awaited decision by the state cabinet regarding the future of sugar factory at Brahmavar has given a new ray of hope to many. The state cabinet in its meeting on Friday November 10 decided to lease out the factory for 25 years.
As per the decision, the persons or corporate sector that comes ahead to take sugar factory on lease should pay Rs 13 crore as security deposit. This would help the government to pay pending salary to the sugar factory labourers and also pay the farmers for the sugarcane they supplied. However, once leased out, the new owner cannot turn it into any other business else but to continue it as sugar factory.
The cabinet also approved the allocation of Rs 24.87 for broadening of Adi-Udupi-Kalsanka- Manipal road. With this approval the road between Adi-Udupi and Syndicate Circle at Manipal will be turned into an 80 feet road with proper drainage and sewage facilities. It will be a one-way road with divider and lights.
