Moodbidri, Nov17: “Government is very serious about the Kambala issue, and concerened about its ban” Minister for youth empowerment, sports and fisheries, Abhayachandra Jain said in Moodbidri on Sunday.
Jain was speaking during a meeting of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts’ Kambala committees, held in Moodbidri discuss about Kambala issue in Moodbidri.
“Government has not banned the Kambala yet. It is only that the district administration had acted on the basis of Supreme Court order. I will talk to state law minister on the issue. I will talk to central law minister as well.” added Jain.
Jain is also the president of Kadalakere Kambala committee.
‘The Jalikkatu was banned in Tamilnadu. But there is a difference between Jalikkatu and Kambala. The Supreme Court order has been misinterpreted. Government should not ban Kambla by any means.’- was the unanimous decision taken at the meeting.
The committee decided to send a delegation to the state capital. The delegation will include four ministers from the undivided Dakshina Kannada and others concerned with Kambala sport.
The committee also requested the administration to co operate to make modifications in the Kambala sport.
