Botafogo relegation fears deepen


Rio de Janeiro, Nov 16 (IANS): Botafogo moved a step closer to relegation to Brazil's Serie B after a 0-1 loss to local rivals Fluminense.

Midfielder Edson broke the deadlock in the 74th minute when he headed in Wagner's cross at the Maracana stadium Saturday night, reports Xinhua.

With four matches remaining in the season, Botafogo occupy 18th place in the standings.

Saturday's result lifted Fluminense to fifth, equal on points with fourth-placed Internacional.

Meanwhile, Luiz Felipe Scolari's Gremio climbed to third after a 3-0 win against Criciuma.
