Udupi, Nov 12: Bharathiya Christian Sevadal (R) Shirva along with Karnataka Christa Sanghatanegala Okkuta, Komu Souhardha Vedike, Catholic Sabha Udupi and Catholic Sabha Women’s wing organized a protest condemning the attack on Jacintha Fernandes by Nemmadi Kendra project director Arun Kumar and his driver on Monday, November 10.
Addressing the protesters, Fr William Martis, Udupi diocese, said, "Attack on women is an unpardonable offence. The lady was attacked and a false case was filed against her. Arun Kumar is misusing his power and trying to end this case in a compromise. Politically powerful and rich people are involved in this case. They are pressurizing the police officers to end the case in a compromise. Money and power will never work in front of people support. We will fight legally against this injustice and we will not leave the case until we get justice”.

Dalith leader Jayan Malpe alleged, "Arun Kumar is a corrupt officer and he is still not arrested. If police officers are sincere and want to know the truth, they can check the CCTV which is fixed in the residence of Arun Kumar. Police officers in order to grab money have booked Jecintha in a false case. They are doing injustice to victim”.
He furthered vented his anger and said that police officer who booked Jacintha should take off his uniform and work for Arun Kumar as peon. “Is this Goonda state or a democratic nation?’, he alleged.
Hilda Rodrigues, who read the news in Daijiworld, said, "This is an inhumane tendency in a civilized society. Police officers are misusing the power and wrongly booked the lady in case”.
G Rajashekar president of Komu Souhardha Vedike termed this incident as 'Shameful thing in a civilized society'.
Professor K Paniraj also spoke on the occasion and condemned police atrocity.
President of Bharathiya Christian Sevadal (R) Charles Amblekar, vice-president, David D'Souza Shirva, Bonifus D'Souza president of Parish Council Udupi Church and others were present during the protest.
