Puttur, Nov 9: State transport minister Ramalinga Reddy has revealed that KSRTC city bus service will be introduced soon in Mangaluru, Puttur and Udupi.
Reddy was speaking after the foundation laying ceremony held in Sullia for the new bus depot.
The KSRTC over the years has been saying that their buses would start services in the undivided Dakshina Kannada. But nothing so far has materialized though a few KSRTC buses in Mangaluru city are seen.
The minister also said that considering the need for additional city buses in the coastal parts, Udupi will get 50, Puttur 28 and Mangaluru 18 buses. He further said that city buses are being introduced as the move would help students possessing KSRTC bus pass.
"KSRTC bus drivers and conductors should be courteous with passengers. It is their duty to maintain discipline once they join the department. In accordance with the request made by MLAs from Dakshina Kannada, locals will be appointed to operate the buses in the coastal region," he said.
Reddy later inspected the KSRTC depot in Mukrampady.
MLA Shakuntala Shetty, block Congress president Hemanath Shetty and others were present.
