KSRTC city buses in Mangaluru, Puttur, Udupi soon: Transport minister

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (RJP)

Puttur, Nov 9: State transport minister Ramalinga Reddy has revealed that KSRTC city bus service will be introduced soon in Mangaluru, Puttur and Udupi.

Reddy was speaking after the foundation laying ceremony held in Sullia for the new bus depot.

The KSRTC over the years has been saying that their buses would start services in the undivided Dakshina Kannada. But nothing so far has materialized though a few KSRTC buses in Mangaluru city are seen.

The minister also said that considering the need for additional city buses in the coastal parts, Udupi will get 50, Puttur 28 and Mangaluru 18 buses. He further said that city buses are being introduced as the move would help students possessing KSRTC bus pass.

"KSRTC bus drivers and conductors should be courteous with passengers. It is their duty to maintain discipline once they join the department. In accordance with the request made by MLAs from Dakshina Kannada, locals will be appointed to operate the buses in the coastal region," he said.

Reddy later inspected the KSRTC depot in Mukrampady.

MLA Shakuntala Shetty, block Congress president Hemanath Shetty and others were present.

Dear Minister, people of Karnataka have no faith in whatever statement made ministers. Action speaks louder than words. Rather than annoucing such initiative, why don't you simply implement it. Or is it another way of you to some extra bucks from the Private Bus ownwers. Cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai has their own govt. buses plying on their roads. So why not in DK?

This is the way of making money Mr. Ramalinga reddy is doing. now private bus owners immediately meet that minister and render their 'POOJA' to transport minister. When R.Ashok was transport minister he gave same statement in mangalore and very next day private bus owners met minister R.Ashok at Bangalore and rendered their "POOJA' and that proposal has been cancelled. Now the same drama is once again in the stage and the person is Ramalinge Gowda instead of R.Ashok. THIS IS NOT JOKE BUT TRUE. And one point to know that the rate in private busses are less than that of KSRTC BUS. THIS IS ALSO TRUE.

All the comments columns for this column for almost 99%, diligently shows, everyone are eagerly waiting for the City bus services in Mangalore , Udupi & Puttur.
I am a regular city bus traveler from Mangalore & in my recent visit to Bangalore after 3 to 4 years, I find that the BMTC City bus service tariff is very much expensive & Mr Ramalinga Reddy has been always made the Transport Minister during the time of Congress rule in Karnataka .
While travelling from Majestic to Jalahali cross , near Peenya Industrial Area 1st Stage, I was told by an aged passenger that after Mr Ramalinga Reddy became the Transport Minister during the time of Congress rule under Siddaramiah in Karnataka from 2013, May all the BMTC City buses have been completely covered with Pvt company advertisements ( as the Transport Minister is making crores of Rupees from Pvt advertisement agencies ) & because of this aged passengers & new comers to Bangalore can’t identify which place the buses have reached & they have to suffer lot.
So this statement is only a tactic to get a suitcase of few crores from the Pvt bus operators association.
If he is really serious now ( assuming our present local MLAs from Mangalore city, Udupi & Puttur are pressurizing on him to introduce for the City bus services) , then he must introduce State bank/Bejai to Talapady route as well as State bank to Suratkal route minimum 12 buses every 1 hour by putting atleast 40 to 50 buses to Mangalore city depot.
Let us all wait & watch, will this happens in next even 1 year time at least.

Point no.1 "Soon" is the tricky word.
    2. KSRTC bus drivers and conductors may lack in passenger service skills but no doubt are more courteous and less rude than pvt bus drivers and conductors.
    3. Appointing local people is ok but do not appoint them on commission basis. Otherwise so far pvt buses are competing among themselves and if Govt buses also join the race not even God can save people.

This is one of the best decisions to introduced KSRTC local bus services like the ones run by BEST in a truly professional manner, connecting each and every point of the city to another to enjoy almost seamless travel with point to point connectivity!!

Pvt. buses are actually a nuisance and have killed innumerable number of innocent people for no fault of theirs in their race to make fast money!!

But, to take upon the 'pvt. bus coterie' and overwhelm them would require a helluva lot of effort and persuasive because of their powerful clout!!

Looks like the Eternal wait.. We have to wait for fly overs direct flights ... Direct Trains to Bangalore and Now the City Bus.. Since we have useless Media Savy Local representatives for the last 3 decades irrespective of Party.. Readers just take this news as a road side comment and if it happens it will name sake two buses which will never replace the entire City bus fleet of Mangalore. If it happens the any state government will crumble due to the money power they weild.

Best answers for Private bus operators.
Private CITY bus drivers they don't even care anybody any vehicle next to them.
When slow 'driving school' car in front of them,,, immediately they change their way to another side without checking their shoulder who is there!!! only God saved peoples life many times in front of me!
I feel very sorry the way they trained to break the traffic law!!

As Manglorians are happy with the services provided by private busses I think Government Bus is Not required in Mangalore.... but instead they can get implement some new Rules for private bus to have electronic ticket bus tickets so that the passengers will not be cheated..
i think this will Not impress many people around... students are happy with the local bus services and the Pass Services....

This is welcome and wise move by the government to introduce KSRTC buses in Dakshina Kannada and udupi district. But thing is that will the government keep up its promise?.Here in both the districts private bus owners are the kings, they may not allow KSRTC to ply.Now they will line up with various reasons and pour gunny bag full of money to the /authorities department concerned to thwart this move. But government should not come under this private bus owners mafia. They have to implement their promise at any cost and under any circumstances in the best interest of public especially school going children and old/sick people. Now private bus owners are reining like they can do anything they want. This kind of attitude should be stopped. They are treating the public like sacrifice animals.Public don't have any say in front of them.See for example now the prices of petrol, diesel has been reduced but they are not bothered to bring down the bus fare.If the marginal price is increase for petrol, diesel, they will increase the bus, auto fare without any consideration and delay. But now they don't open their mouth.Introducing KSRTC buses in both the twin districts is the need of the hour.God bless the concerned authorities to implement their decision without any hesitation and delay.Sooner the better for the public.Don't come under any pressure.

The number of buses allocated itself shows how the ministry has bowed to the private bus mafia.
The routed allocation will be to those routes where there is no income for private bus owners. They might new useless routes like mangaladevi to thalappadi.
