Mangaluru, Nov 8: "Survey has already begun to develop Mangalore junction into world class railway station. The project will be done under private-public partnership model. 63 acres of land are available with railways whereas this project requires 100 acres of land”, said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
He was briefing the press after holding a talk with the railway departmental officers and national highway authority at circuit house, here on Saturday, November 8.
He further said after having meetings with railway department once in three months, various works have been started. “Construction of Jeppu-Kudpadi over-bridge will be completed before June 2015. Construction of railway over bridge at Haleangadi with an approximate cost of Rs 4.56 crore will be done with funds from both state and union government. Proposal has been sent for the extension of railway station at Subramanya and BC Road. The construction of toilets at Subramanya railway station has been in the process of completion. A proposed demand for 17 ROB has been sent to Union government. The survey for railway over-bridge at Jeppu-Mahakalipaddpu railway crossing has been done and the work will start soon”.
Talking about including Mangalore as a separate railway division in next budget, Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "Mangalore railway station comes under three separate divisions which are Phalghat, Mysuru and Konkan Railways, hence there are technical problems. After consulting with departmental experts, the technical problem would be solved. Separate Mangalore railway division within five years of my tenure will be achieved”, he added.
He also asked railway department officials to keep the premises of railway station neat and clean.
