Football season for Bengal sex workers' kids begins


Kolkata, Nov 7 (IANS): Children of West Bengal's sex workers will display their football playing skills at an intra-state league beginning here Nov 9, a statement said Friday.

Sixteen teams from different districts will participate in the event that will conclude Nov 22.

"The competition is intended to ensure the rights of participation of playing football of the children of sex workers of different parts of West Bengal," said Ratan Dolui, secretary, Amra Padatik, an organization for children from the marginalized community.

It is an associate of Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee, the largest collective of sex workers in Bengal.

The inaugural ceremony Nov 9 will be held at Prachya Bharati Domjur Stadium at Domjur, Howrah.
