Mumbai: Conference ‘Search for peace’ held at INMUN

Mumbai, Nov 6: One thousand students from across India, Sri Lanka and Nepal debated and negotiated to find the best way forward to peace and progress through dialogue and discussions in a conference ‘Search for peace’ at the Indian Model United Nations (INMUN), organized by the Ryan International Group of Schools, recently.

The INMUN conference is an initiative of founder chairman, Dr A F Pinto and the managing director, Grace Pinto to develop global leaders of tomorrow. This year the conference was organized from October 30 to November 1, 2014.

The opening speaker Dr Kiran Bedi, former IPS officer said, “By doing such UN–mock conference we create ‘Citizens of world’, I support the spirit”.

Speaking on the occasion, Grace Pinto, managing director, Ryan International Group of Institutions, said, “We firmly believe in empowering the youth of today to become better global citizens of tomorrow. We are proud to continue to organize the INMUN conference as our students very enthusiastically look forward to this event annually. The support we have got from all the officials, authorities and participating schools is tremendous. We hope that by the end of the current session our students will be the peacemakers as the God’s word rightly says, ‘The peacemakers will be called the children of God’ ”.  

Assaf Moran, political secretary from embassy of Israel, Jaco Cilliers, UNDP country director and various other eminent speakers had an interactive session with the students who glorified students’ efforts at the conference.

Representatives of Norway, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Rwanda, Namibia and Indonesian embassy attended the conference and motivated and enlightened the young delegates and awarded the meritorious students.

Students represented 120 countries and discussed, debated and formed consensus to pass resolutions offering solutions to the recent issues of international importance.

The theme of the conference was “Search for Peace”. The conference provided a platform to collaborate and network to overcome differences and conflict in order to resolve modern-day problems of socio-political and economic dimensions. The INMUN conference was an excellent experience for students to understand international challenges and attempt to usher in a new world order.
