Mangaluru, Nov 5: Officials from the department of food and civil supplies and the department of revenue raided a house and a shop at Haleangady and seized 55 quintals of rice meant for Anna Dasoha stored illegally.
The ambitious Anna Bhagya project of the state government has become a profitable business for traders. Locals from Haleangady had telephoned Bangalore’s food control room. When the officials raided the house after the complaint, they have found nearly 3 quintals of rice stored in small sacks and a person named Mayyaddi Indiranagar was arrested red handed.
When Mayyaddi was questioned, he said that more rice was stored at Badruddin store. A raid at the Badriya store belonging to Badruddin at Haleangady market enabled the officials to seize nearly 50 quintals of rice stored in sacks.
Badruddin said that the fair shop owners were directly selling the rice to him.
