Mangaluru: 'Road' politics mar as Bunts Hostel - Jyothi concrete work begins

Mangaluru, Nov 4: Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo inaugurated the road work from Bunts hostel to Ambedkar Circle popularly called as Jyothi circle on Tuesday November 4, at Bunts Hostel Circle in Mangaluru.

After the inauguration, J R Lobo speaking to the media said, "To develop this road, the State Government has sanctioned Rs 1.94 crore out of Rs 100 Crore second phase grant for the development work. The total amount will be Rs 2.19 crore for the concretization of 312 meter road work. The road will be 14 meters wide including the median. The work on this busy road of the city will be completed in four months. The contractors Gokuldas Bhandarkars have assured to complete the work within the specified time. Most of the roads in the city have been concretized now and this road also will also be concretized soon."

"One side of the road will be completely closed while the other side will be available for traffic. Proper footpaths will be constructed and we will make sure that no further digging will take place on this road for any purpose. “ He added.

On the same occasion, MLC Ivan D'Souza in his speech said “The Mangaluru city is growing. There are many works pending due to some court orders. We are giving more preference to the footpaths."

Mayor Mahabala Maarla said that four lane roads will be constructed from Bunts Hostel to PVS circle very soon. "To solve the traffic problems, roads in all the 20-25 circles will be developed. There is no political agenda here. Development is purely for the people. Our intention is to develop our Mangaluru."

Speaking about the pathetic condition of the Kudroli roads, Mayor said that the issue is in the court and very soon the problem will be solved. He blamed the local people for non co operation.

Prior to the inauguration, there was a verbal exchange between the corporator of Mangaladevi Premanand from BJP and Vinay Raj from the Court ward for putting up a banner and not inviting the Local MP Nalin Kumar Kateel for the event.

"This is a pure official work. This developmental work is for the public. There should not be any kind of political interference. Any work taken up by the corporation does not belong to any political party." Premanand said.

In another controversy also related to this concretization work, Congress' own corporator Ashok D K boycotted the inauguration programme saying his photo was not put in the banner. Ashok who is also the MCC Works Committee president exchanged bitter words with fellow corporator Vinay Raj, who had put the big banner with his own photo and other Congress leaders.

Sadly, a programme with good intention was marred by the 'road' politics.

MCC commissioner Gokuldas Nayak, deputy mayor Kavitha Vasu, T K Sudheer, Shashidhar Hegde and others were also present on this occasion.

JNB, Bejai most of the foothpaths construction was stopped due to the stay bought by the respective shop keepers on widening the road. Now what you secular party khangress is doing. Why they are not constructing the footpaths. If you say BJP MLA's owned pajjero then how your khangress MLA's are going by bicyle or bullock carts??

All over Mangaluru we see unscientific concrete Roads with Steep borders and having footpath six inches below the road level, because of which many scooter riders have slipped down this steep border and fallen down and injured.

    DITHESH POOJARY,
Level playing field should be fair to all people and to all parties.
Either none of the parties should use banner and show the work they are doing OR
All parties should put banners and show the work they are doing.

Change should begin from higher level first.

We the people, shouldn't be biased.

Mr. Ashok D K you have to thank your fellow corporator Vinay Raj for putting the banner without your photo. He knows that one day nature will bring down the rain and wind and drag the banner so it will fall in the 'thodu' (drain)and stink with human wind & piss. It is o.k to stink with road politics.

The traffic police had issued statement in newspapers that road would be open for traffic from bunts Hostel to Ambedkar Circle and all vehicles from Jyothi side will have to come via balmatta, mallikatta. But today the scene is reverse- vehicles are being allowed from Ambedkar circle to Bunts Hostel only. Lot of traffic jam early in the morning .

Cyril Mascarenhas said it correctly. My question is why Ashok DK's photo should be there in first place. He is not the Corporator of that Ward at all. Mr Vinay Raj is the Corporator. For anything He has done He is paid through compensation plus something else as Corporator. Look at the mess in His own Kadri ward. Look at the Foot Path near Bunts Hostel Gate where huge stones are spread. People are tripping and falling. Grass is grown so tall,Tigers can roam in it. This is where His Photo should be hung on a tree.
Sewer was over flowing near Kambla Junction which was corrected through my efforts.
His another Photo should be hung on the gate of Primary Health Care Center near City Hospital. This is where a 6 foot deep death trap is waiting for a death. Any one walks on that foot path is waiting for His last chance in life. Health Employees will tell the Horror Stories about this Monster Hole.

Let us not politicize every single issue. If we still keep this crab mentality, when will our city infrastructure develop? Why are we talking about parties here, it is our city and it's development. Who does it is not main thing, let us appreciate that it is happening at last.!! The road belongs to the citizens.. shame on you we donot need a banner or a function for a foundation stone simple start the work and finish it on time and also with proper foot path drainage and provision for underground cabling . Also make the drainage manhole level with the road surface. Donot be blind ,, hopefully these power and money savy morons understand the frustration of the common man.

There is no footpath near KSRTC Bus stand at Bejai Mangaluru. Even on this rough sideways it is impossible to walk as big stones have come to the fore after recent heavy rains.
So people are forced to park their vehicles by the side of concrete road up to Reliance Footwear store, but the traffic police impose fine for such parking. Then please let us know where to park two wheelers as the foot paths and parking places have become deep trench around KSRTC after heavy rain.
