Mangaluru, Nov 3: Zilla Panchayat vice president Satish Kumpala has alleged that the health and family welfare minister U T Khadar has diverted the site granted for the landless people to erect a government college in Konaje.

Satish was addressing a protest rally organized by the villagers of Konaje at Konaje on Monday November 3. He alleged in his speech that health minister was behind the government move to reconsider the sanction of land and reserve the same to construct a government junior college.

Satish said that the revenue department ordered to grant 4.33 acres of land in survey number 108-8 for housing site in the year 2013. However the order was taken back, thus diverting the land to construct a junior college in the year 2014. He alleged currently the minister was trying to grab the land in name of building a college.

“The minister whose duty is to protect the interest of the people has blatantly abused power and he should be ashamed of this gross injustice. The land was reserved for the poor and the government has no right to derail the lives of needy villagers of Konaje," he added.

Satish also took a jibe at the health minister for failing to implement ban on gutka. The minister earlier had called for the complete ban on gutka, but the gutka sachets were abundantly available in every shop across the state, he said.

DYFI leader Sunil Kumar Bajal addressing the protesters said U T Khadar was infamous for weaving web of lies. He alleged state government did not have the list of landless people and the Congress leaders are trying to gobble the land for their benefits.

Though there was need to build a college for the education purpose, the decision of the government to divert the land reserved for the poor was not justifiable, he said.

The protesters marched from Mangalore University to Konaje Gram Panchayath.

BJP leader Yashavanth Ameen, JD(S) leader Usman Aksa Deralakatte, Sankappa Karkera, Gopinath and others were present.

The organisations these protesters belong, should educate these protesters about the real problems faced by the state today. All the government educational institutes are being ruined by the commercialization of education. This is nothing but builder and realestste lobbying in the name of the poor.
forget about the minister and his interests. just see the purpose for which it is being alloted for. EDUCATION. rural colleges are boon to the villagers and students needn't travel long distance and pay hefty fees.
I feel pity on these rural folks who have joined the protest. they do not know the intention of this whole protest.
with this land hardly 40 families can have their own home where as thousands of students can make a life with education from this college.

I live near this proposed land, it was already mentioned before that this land should be used either as residential plot for the homeless or a residential school. This land of 4.33 acred has slops of more than 2 acres and it is not possible to make a layout, and even if it is done, very few people will benefit. It is more suitable for buildings so they decided to go with this project and it is a good decision.
One thing I would like to bring to your knowledge is that most of the government lands in this region are grabbed by the 'land mafia'. They make layouts and sell them at 25,000 to 40,000 rs per cent. This land if alloted to the poor will be taken over by these land mafias and can yeild above 50,000rs.

Respected Mr. U.T.Khader is a very good minister and a practical person, these persons know that if some development done by one person will cause benefit to his Party therefore they are protesting, just like it happened for the Udupi-Manipal Road, when Congress was in power, The Udupi Manipal road was planned for demolition and reconstruction, BJP did not allow this to happen citing loss to people whose homes were there, But when in power, demolished those homes and have created an awesome road there taking credit for the same.
I think Mr. U.T. Khader, if he is doing something to educate or develop the place, must be given the chance. it should be done

    It is very simple.
This Satish is not but Photo copy of rakhi sawanth..
    he is big liar
secondly the land was diverted because there was not even single person who had applied for the site.

It was published in 2013 that 4.5 acres of land will be alloted to landless people to build house.
but not even single people applied for it.
so the government has diverted the land as there were no applicants and there was a request for government junior college.
so how come government college land will be grabbed by Khadar
