Facebook slur against Shastri couple's daughter – two Math supporters held

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Nov 3: On the allegation of making scurrilous remarks against Anshumathi Shastri, daughter of Premalata and Diwakar Shastri couple, who has registered a complaint against head of Sri Ramachandrapur Math, Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamiji, in Banashankari police station here, the police have arrested two persons, said to be ardent supporters of the above Math.

The arrested persons are Sanath Paleppaddy from Bellare in Sullia taluk, and Santosh from Thirthahalli in Shimoga district. Criminal case was filed against them and some others under Information Technology Act. Both were remanded to 15 days judicial custody on being produced in the court here.

After Anshumathi filed the above complaint, photographs of her taking part in parties arranged in college in the company of her friends some years back had been uploaded on Facebook. Some comments were also posted to these items. Anshumathi had said in her complaint that her photographs had been uploaded in social websites without obtaining her concurrence or permission. She said the photos were put up with the specific objective of harming her image, and comments which made wry remarks about her were backed by designs of harming her reputation.

The said arrests were made on Sunday November 2 with the help of policemen of cyber cell. Police sources said that immediately after the news of these arrests spread, several persons who had shared the said photographs had deleted them from their accounts, while some have deleted derogatory comments and changed profile pictures. They added that some of them have closed their accounts in the social media.

Anshumathi said she had drawn attention of the police towards 18 persons who had attempted her character assassination through social websites. She said her mother and their family were facing hostility from the so called devotees of Sri Ramchandrapur Math after her mother sought justice. She recalled the Swamiji used to term her mother as an enlightened soul in the past.

Many papers published rubbish articles on the basis of a patently false complaint by Premalatha.

Now that the Court has stated there is no truth in allegations, and the statements are not found to be factual - How will you compensate the Seer for all the harm to his reputation?

You mean the people who are arrested are not guilty? They are inciting people to post derogatory comments against a poor girl.
Its time they bring strict cyber laws in action to prevent slander.

Wait a second, what comment have I changed? ...

I feel the law should go and its a blatant misuse of this Kapil Sibal's law! it is not because of one particular community or math.. There is other way of handling defamation! in recent case of Jayalalitha vs Swamy too, court observed criminality should be removed form the defamation case.

I have seen the photos in the public domain.. I neither comment, nor endorse them! "Infact I dont term many controversies as 'rape" at all"...

If you go through just Daiji comments itself, you will find so many disgracing comments against Honorable Prime minister.. right from holding him to a ransom on Godhra riots to calling him names and Yashodaben and everything..? If those cases are registered, the same law can put each one of us behind the bars..? You want that?

Thats the reason, I say, always "try to be truthful and impartial while commenting", so that you can justify your stand even in courts or public!.. Just see how the people reacted when one Goan was arrested, for writing some comments against Modi, by Goa administration!...

today someone else is arersted, tomorrow someone else may be arrested...

Yes, Yes I know laws very well!

When some Rafeeq guy from katapadi, who was publishing intimate scene with some MGM girl, there was the same law..!

when Vadra attacks a journalist, there are laws too..!

When there is ban of cattle trafficking and slughtering, there is a law to be followed...!!

when there are rampant rapes everywhere, there is a law to put them behind bars..!!

I have seen how you have replied in all such cases... so, yee anna, Amitha... onthe HITA-MITHAvaad paaterla.. :)

Blind following of people / ideology is harmful as well as self derogatory. We have capacity to think and reason, and we must deploy them.

Must applaud this woman's efforts to catch the wrong doers.
