Wish every Kannadiga living in Karnataka, and orher parts of India and around the Globe a Happy Kannada Rajyothsava. Just attended a cultural function in Sydney organized by Kannada Sangha Sydney (has 50,000 members), all the change of names of 12 cities from Anglican names to Kannada names were officially welcomed, but it should have been done long time ago when Mysore state was renamed as Karnataka state way back in 1970, it is causing Karnataka tax payers huge burden.
Anyway its official Mangalore- Mangaluru, Mysore-Myasuru, Shimoga- Shivamoga, Tumkur- Tumakuru, Belgaum-Belgavi, Bangalore- Bengaluru etc, list goes on, all the boards, govt documentation, road signs will be eventually changed to these new names according official requirements. Even Mangalore University will be renamed as Mangaluru University. Useless politicians, please for gods sake do something good to these cities than just changing names.
We don't have problem calling Mangalore as Mangaluru, but we want to see our city developed with proper roads, road rules, 24hrs water and electricity, infrastructure etc, what ever a modern city needs.
Jai Hind, Jai Karnataka, Jai Tulu Nadu.

wait a minute..."mangaluru" literary means "manga gala huru"? seriously why would you contemplate changing the name to land of monkeys!! "Rai, who made this announcement, released colourful balloons in the air" I initially misread it as released baboons in the air :)apt considering the situation..I don't understand what is achieved with changing names, do we become more Indian, does it help us connect more to our "culture" - then why do we need progress? why endorse western products? aspire to be like western countries..?
