Udupi, Nov 1: A high school student from near Thirthahalli in Shimoga district, who was admitted into a hospital in Manipal breathed her last on Friday October 31. She has been identified as Nandita, a resident of Balebail near Thirthahalli.
Reportedly, Nandita was waiting to catch a bus to her school by the side of the road near her home on Wednesday October 29, when a car pulled up near her. When she heard someone calling out her name from inside the car, she went closer. It is said that she was forcibly pulled into the car by its unknown occupants and taken away.
Those who kidnapped the girl dropped her off about three km away at around noon the same day, it is said. The kidnappers sped away after dumping her by the roadside. Some people residing nearby spotted the girl and extended help to her. The girl, who seemed to be in shock and terrified, was in no position to relate to them the situation she was in. They then got the telephone number of her home from her identity card, and called her parents.
Her parents came to the spot and picked her. By evening however, the girl started vomitting uncontrollably. She was rushed to a hospital in Thirthahalli. After her blood pressure plummetted sharply, at the advice of the doctor, she was taken to Manipal hospital the next day.
The girl, who complained of acute stomach ache, was provided with medical care and treatment at Manipal Hospital, however, she failed to respond and breathed her last on Friday.
It is said that the girl confided in her mother about what she went through that day after being kidnapped. Postmortem report, which is expected to throw more light on the incident, is awaited. It is suspected that she was raped and that people known to the family might have been involved with the crime.
