Bangalore, Oct 31: Karnataka’s capital city of Bangalore, coastal city of Mangalore and ten other cities get new names on the State’s 59thRajyothsava Day on Saturday, November 1.
The State Government has issued official gazette notifications today (October 31) renaming the 12 cities in Karnataka.
According to the official notification, the new names of the 12 cities including Bangalore, Mangalore and Mysore will come into effect from Saturday, November 1.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the proposal of the State government to rename 12 cities and towns stating that "it has no objection to the change of names" of those places.
This comes after eight years of the State government sending the proposal to the Centre.
The new names will come into effect from Saturday.
The State Revenue Department had sent the proposal to the Centre seeking its nod for changing the names of 12 cities on November 30, 2006, the details of which are as follows:
