Wow! We have a new name for our city!!!???
But??!! What is that point? What are we going to get out of this?!!! We stupid people don't get his.
We need security of our citizens first: but we are not serious about it.
We need a clean governance without any corruption: NO! We can think about it later, what it really means!!
We need better transportation: But this is not important for us!! We can leave without it!!
We need transparency in all government transactions: NO, let the politicians decide! We don’t know this stuff!!
Wakeup people! Try to understand where we are and where we should’ve been!! Let’s work together and let out politicians know that there are many things they can work on other than renaming cities!!

These people dont have any development works for Mangalore rather keen on changing the beautiful names. After renaming how many of them call Mangaluru instead of Mangalore is a big question mark.

Bombay has been changed to Mumbai decades back but the name Bombay still remained in the people's heart/daily talks.
It is his/her personal choice whether she/he like to call Mangalore or Mangaluru. Whatever, I don't care any kannada fanatics I prefer to use Mangalore in my every talks as usual, kodial in Konkani & kudla in Tulu

Rightly said Anil, I hail from Bombay and I do not like the word Mumbay. I sincerely wish that Bombay still remains Bombay because there is charm in that name .. so will I expect it to go back??? After all we (sigh ....) keep asking ourselves "Whats in a name?" which ever way we see it. Mind you, every change of name is politicized and anti-British oriented. So we have to force down this better pill .. whether we like it or not.

these names were there several thousands years ago and it represents our culture.why we have to keep the names of invaders just bcoz they could not pronounce the old names.

infact this act should have been done immediatly after independence.
most of them dont know hyderabad was known as anuradhapura before several thousands years back before nizaam rule.

pakistan has changed all the names of its cities and villages in accordance with thier policies of newly carved state islamic republic of pakistan.

pak have given artificial new names but india is reverting back to original names from artificial names given by invaders

    good day,thanks.

The British didnt force these names. They just got in with the locals. But now the state govt with nothin better on thier popularity agenda have resorted to reverting to these ugly names which will strike a shameful chord globally. What about the waste of materials like sign boards, stationary etc which will have to be redone to comply with this bitter decision. Patriotism should come and show from deeds and not decisions.

Changing the names of Cities is nothing as compared to the proposal to change the name of the whole country!

The names of these Cities in Hindi will be continued with wrong pronunciation as Hindi people have forgotten how to write ಳ and ಣ.
The Banks will wrongly write in their Boards and Cheques as:- ಬೆಂಗಲೂರು, ಮಂಗಲೂರು, ಬೆಲಗಾವಿ, ಬಲಾರಿ, ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಲೂರು, ಹುಬ್ಬಲಿ, in Devanagari script.
Karnataka Govt should also stipulate how to write names of our cities in Hindi/Devanagari too.

Looks like you have problem with the person rather than politicians in general. For your information, There is no Bombay, Orrisa, Victoria Terminal in Bombay, Culcatta, Madras now. These names not been changed by Siddu. We Indians and Indian politicians like to progress backwards and ahppy about it. See what we are doing in India when Freedom and equality is going forward even in Arab world. See the BBC news about gender equality report. India is the only non Muslim country which stands among them with poor gender equality.. still we say Mera Bharat Mahan.. and every Indian wants to go abroad chanting this slogan

What's the difference after the change. There were 9 letters and will be 9 letter when u spell Mangalore.

Ministers just trying to show some regionalistic patriotism whereas they should be actively doing someother things which actually benefit the society. This move only creates more chaos among the outsiders visiting our place.

Wonder what's on these minsters minds.

Ten and even twenty years hence, I bet, if anyone calls any of the renamed names!!!
I sympathize the overseas flight captains mispronouncing Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport while landing.
Isn't it an indirect insult to the great named-after hero or place?
