Kundapur, Oct 31: A high school student underwent enormous mental agony and consumed poison, reportedly after undergoing mental stress due to harassment meted out by a youth.
The incident occurred at Kodi in the outskirts of the town, and the accused was arrested on Wednesday October 29.
The arrested person has been identified as Richard Noel Fernandes, a resident of Kodi.
Relating to this incident, the police here have registered a case.
There is information that Noel Fernandes was in the habit of routinely visiting a shop owned by a person named Kamath at Kodi. It is said that he used to make obscene remarks about the daughter of the shop owner, who is a ninth standard student, and pass lewd comments at her. Unable to bear his eve teasing and harassment, the girl allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison. The girl was rushed to the government hospital here by her parents, where she is undergoing treatment.
On the basis of the statement made by the student, the police here arrested the accused and produced him in the court. He was remanded to two weeks of judicial custody.
