Mangalore, Oct 30: City corporator, Pratibha Kulai, alleged that the security guard agency hired by the administration here has been found to be cheating the corporation by not posting sufficient number of guards in accordance with the numbers agreed upon with the corporation. She was speaking at the general session of the city corporation held here on Wednesday October 29.
Pratibha said that the agency concerned had been hired to hire about 12 security guards in Suratkal, Kulai, and nearby areas. She alleged that instead of 12, the agency has been employing only seven guards, but claiming bill for full strength. She said that because of lapse in security, an ash collection tray worth Rs 1.5 lac provided at Kulai graveyard had been stolen by thieves.
Corporator, Ganesh Hosabettu, demanded for Lokayukta inquiry into the incident, while Sudhir Shetty wanted to know the name of the security agency involved.
City mayor, Mahabala Marla, taking serious cognizance of the issue, ordered the officials to investigate the issue and take steps against erring officials.
Acting city commissioner, Gokuldas Nayak, clarified that contract relating the above was given to Premier Security Agency, and that funds are released only when the local health inspector certifies the bills.
Deputy mayor, Kavita, standing committee chairpersons, Ashok Shetty, and Ashok Kumar D K were present.
