Mumbai, Oct 28 : Five members of a family of 13, bringing home the body of a relative for a funeral in Shahpur, were killed when their tempo collided with a jeep on the Nashik Highway on Friday.
Tragically, the relative too had been killed in a road accident while on his way to his native village to perform the rituals for his father’s death anniversary.
The accident
Anil Agre, a resident of Shahpur, was travelling on his motorbike to his native village Kalas in Ahmednagar’s Akole district on October 25.
He was going to perform some traditional rituals on the first death anniversary of his father.
As he was nearing Kalas, he met with an accident and died while being treated at the local hospital.
The shocked Agre family decided to bring his body back to Shahpur for cremation, but the worst was yet to come.
The driver of the truck hired by the family to travel back to Shahpur, lost control of the vehicle near Punadhe railway crossing and collided with a Maruti Zen and a jeep going towards Nashik.
In the mishap, Usha Shiware, 28, Karbhari Rokde, 45, Balu Gawande, 40 Sanket Gawande, 8 and jeep driver Sukhdev Wakchaware, 35 lost their lives.
Fifteen others injured in the accident were moved to Sion Hospital and Thane Civil Hospital. Anil’s wife Anita, eight-year-old son Bipin and daughter Shruti, 7, survived the accident.
The Shahpur police have registered a complaint against the truck driver for rash driving and are investigating further.
