Kundapur, Oct 28: In an incident which was reported from Kenchanur in the taluk, cases were registered by the range forest office here against two persons, who have been charged with cutting down valuable trees standing in government land, and concealing the logs under mud. The officials of the department have also charged these persons of planning to take these logs to their respective houses.
Gundu Shetty from Kenchanur and Prakash Poojary from Gulwady village have been charged with the said offence. A road has been illegally laid in government land located under survey No. 62 of Kenchanur village. Forest officials, who were sounded by someone that valuable jungle jack fruit trees, and some other high value trees were being cut down, and logs of these trees were being buried under earth at the same spot, range forest conservator, Lohit, led a raiding team of officials to the spot.
The officials also seized saw, cutting machines, and also the logs found from the spot, besides booking the above two persons for the above unlawful act. The raiding party led by Lohit was accompanied by deputy divisional forest officer, Hema, and officers, Chandravati, Dilip, and Gururaj.
