Mangalore, Oct 28: Policemen from city crime branch (CCB) here succeeded in arresting Deekshit Poojary (25) from Maroli Niddel here, relating to the murder of Durgaprasad Shetty from Badaga Yedapadavu village, who was employed at Shubhodaya Finance at Bykampady. Deekshit is reportedly an accomplice of Vicky Shetty, who is known to be directing illegal activities by remaining underground. With this arrest, the number of people who are put behind the bars relating to this case has risen to five.
Durgaprasad was killed by a few persons armed with deadly weapons at Valencia in the city on September 22 this year, supposedly relating to financial transactions. The policemen had jumped into action immediately, and succeeded in arresting four of the main accused, Santosh Shettigar, and other accused, Sandesh Kotian from Yekkur, Pawan Shetty from Shaktinagar, and Harshit Shetty from Kulshekhar here, on September 26.
Deekshit had remained elusive after the above murder. The CCB police, who had been closely following up movement of accused persons, got information that he was near the bus stand at Derebail Konchady. After arresting him, Deekshit was handed over to Pandeshwar police station for further investigation.
The police said that Deekshit, who is associated with underground criminal, Vicky Shetty, was involved with shootout at entrepreneur, Vijayendra Bhat, abduction and murder plan of lawyer, Prakash, murder of John Pinto from Mannagudda here, and a case of possessing illegal arms. The city crime branch staff had nabbed him in June this year when in possession of sword and gun. He had then been accused of planning to eliminate rich businessmen including Chandu alias Chandrahas Shetty from Kottara and Bharatesh. Deekshit had succeeded in getting bail from court in September. Within a week of his release, he got involved with the above murder, policemen added.
The operation to arrest Deekshit Poojary was executed by a team led by CCB inspector, Valentine D'Souza and police sub-inspector, Shyam Sundar, working under the guidance of deputy commissioners of police, Dr Jagadish and Vishnuvardhan, under the instructions of city police commissioner, R Hitendra.
