Mangalore, Oct 28: “Celebrating festivals does not mean wearing new clothes and savouring mouth watering Biryani, but festivals symbolize more important factors such as sanctity of the festival, solidarity of humans, respect for other religions and peaceful co-existence. We must ensure respect, ethical and moral values in our society, only then any festival becomes relevant and worth enjoying,” said Khatib Svadakatullah Faizi of Mangalore Central Juma Masjid while conveying his message during Bakrid celebrations.
He was addressing the students, parents, teachers and community leaders during the joint Bakrid celebrations at the Saanidya School for Special Children under the auspices of Jumeeyatul Falah Mangalore Unit on Monday October 27.
He explained the importance behind celebrating Bakrid and its religious implications. He also spoke about the salient features of Eid Ul Fitr and Eid Ul Adha celebrated by the Muslims and other communities throughout the world. These festivals symbolise the act of humanity, charity and sacrifice, he said. He opined that the festivals should be celebrated under a peaceful environment and not by disturbing others. Janab Imtiaz Ahmed Khatib, the head of Jameeatul Falah Mangalore Unit presided over the programme.
Earlier, Abdurahman recited verses from the Holy Quran, followed by which Hemacharya, editor-in-chief of daijiworld weekly inaugurated the festival by unveiling a plaque that read ‘Unity in Diversity’ in the presence of Vasant Kumar Shetty, administrator of Saanidhya Special School, Nazeer Ahmed, general secretary of DK and Udupi unit of Jameetul Falah, Saanidya vice president M B Devdatta Rao, entrepreneur M A S Basheer, social activist Haji Ahmed Basheer and others.
Saanidhya Special school children gave a stellar performance by welcoming the guests and enacting a cross firing at the Indian border, that depicted the love, dedication and respect of Indian soldiers for their country.
