Puttur, Oct 29: A group of miscreants kidnapped two students of Vivekananda College here and assaulted them, before police intervened and took control of the situation on Friday October 27 evening.

Vivekananda College students Mithunraj, Prasad and Naziya had gone to Mangalore along with 4 others students to submit their project work.  After their work in Mangalore, they were returning home on a KSRTC bus when a group of miscreants stopped them and forced them to get down from bus at Kukkarabettu.  The miscreants who had wooden clubs, sabres etc in their hands, forced the three students into an auto and took them to Mura.

After reaching Mura, they assaulted them.  Later they allowed Naziya to go home, while taking Mithunraj and Prasad to Bannur where the latters were once again assaulted.  Thereafter they were hidden near a place of worship.

Meanwhile Naziya passed news to her family members about the kidnap of her classmates who in turn alerted the police.  ASP Dr P S Harsha immediately took charge of the operation and found injured Mithunraj and Prasad.  They were later admitted to hospital.

The police have now arrested 8 persons in this regard.  They are identified as Abdul Khadar, Jakir Hussain, Abdul Razak, Riaz Hussain, Ismail, Mohammad Salim, Sirajuddin and Hakim.  They have been produced before the Bantwal court which has remanded them to judicial custody up to November 2.
