Mangalore, Oct 27: Mangalore University has sent a letter to the government urging for a minimum honorarium of Rs 5000 to guest lecturers from affiliated government first grade colleges, informed Mangalore University vice-chancellor Prof K M Kaveriappa.
Addressing the University's Academic Council meeting on Thursday October 26, he said that the government has not cleared last year's honorarium owing to which the guests lecturers have been unwilling to respond to the University's invitations.
He also said that a report will be prepared by the University about the prevailing problems in affiliated colleges. The same will be forwarded to the legislators who would discuss the issue with the government, he added.
The members at the meeting decided to rename the course in Master of Journalism as Master of Communication and Journalism (MCJ) in view of the students' interests.
The members also approved introduction of new courses in some of the government first grade colleges.
Among those present were registrar Sunder Naik and legislator Pratapchandra Shetty.
