Panaji, Oct 27: BJP on Thursday accused the Goa government of having failed to check the alleged involvement of 'Russian mafia' in land dealing in the state.

Quoting National Security Council report published in a section of press here, Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar, has alleged the involvement of politicians and their kin in land dealings in the state.

"This is a serious issue concerning the state's security. If the situation is allowed to go out of hand, then mafia will start ruling the state," Parrikar told reporters here.

He alleged that police had become a tool in the hands of ruling party which stopped them from taking action against such land dealings.

"Issues related to sale of land to foreigners have been in focus for the last four months.. But there is no inquiry into the land dealings...Inquiry should be conducted considering there is a criminal angle to it," he said.

Meanwhile, Parrikar has welcomed any inquiry against him for his alleged role in the irregularities during creation of infrastructure for International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2004.

Former Congress Minister Mauvin Godinho has filed a police complaint against Parrikar alleging his involvement in the irregularities and city police has registered an FIR in the case.
