Udupi, Oct 25 : A public felicitation programme for the winners of national level volleyball boys team (under 14) and the district representatives in the Karnataka team was organized by Mount Rosary English Medium School, Santhekatte, Kallianpur on 25th October at Veerabhadra Auditorium Santhekatte.
“India is lagging behind in sports. In some instances parents themselves prevent their children’s from engaging in sports.” said Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA of Udupi in his inaugural speech.
He further added that, CM Siddaramaiah, is planning to organize a commission called ‘Saralikarn and Jadikaran’ for the effective administration in the state under the leadership of Jayachandra. He gave an appeal to provide grace marks to active sport students. He announced Rs 5000 amount for each award winners from the Yuvajana Kreeda Ilakhe and Student’s Welfare Fund.
12 students were selected and won second place in the national level from the Karnataka in under 14 boys category volleyball held at Penugonda, Andhra Pradesh from October 8 to 12. The team had bagged first place in the state level and was selected for the national level. The team lost to Uttar Pradesh by 25-21,25-20, 25-18 in the national event.
The six students selected in Hobali, district level are Pavan, Hassan, Rakesh, Keerthan, Preethesh and Yathish. The five students selected from the Mount Rosary School are Dashrath, Manoj, Aaron D'Souza, Anubhav, Glen D'Souza. The student from Shri Vidyesh Vidyamanya is Vithesh and from National English Medium School Barkur, are Anstain and Manoj. The other team members are Paduranga, Raju D Gonemannavar, Shivanad Hiremath, Muhammed Rafiq Pinjar of Gadag and Basavraj Jalajannavar.
Mahima, who was the winner of State-level Chess competition was also felicitated on the occasion.
The team members were trained by Nagraj and Sunil Poojary the physical education trainers.
Fr Philip Neri Aranha presided over the function.
Raghupati Bhat, former MLA, Fr Clement Mascarenhas, Secretary Catholic Education Society, DDPI Diwakar Shetty, Vittal Shetty,District Physical Education Superintendent , Bramhavar BEO Nagesh Shanbouge, TPO Madhukar S, Satish Nayak, Kallianpur Gram Panchayat President, Vice-President Church Pastoral Council Jerry Vincent Dias, Ravi Acharya,President PTA, Srikanth Samanath and other guests were present during the programme.
A rally has was oragnised from Ashirvad Junction and ended at Veerabhadra Auditorium.
