Mangalore, Oct 25: City-based advocate and president of Dakshina Kannada district unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Jagadish Shenava, has dismissed the allegations levelled on him by a Christian girl in a complaint filed in Konaje police station here, of forcing her to marry a Hindu boy and threatening her parents.
Shenava said he had merely attended the marriage programme held at Arya Samaj in the city, at the behest of some Bajrang Dal workers. 'The people who called me told me that a Hindu boy and a Christian girl had decided to marry at Arya Samaj as per Hindu tradition, and that policemen of Konaje station were present there. As per the telephonic request, I had attended the ceremony held on October 16,' he clarified.
Shenava also said that Vivita D'Souza and Roshan Shetty were in love with each other since the last three years, and that both their families had opposed this alliance. He added that the couple had decided to tie the knot at Arya Samaj as per Hindu traditions, as they could not convince their respective families to agree for their marriage.
'I had led recently a protest demanding the suspension of Kavoor police station sub-inspector, Umesh Kumar, and succeeded in getting this demand met. Some of the leaders in the district are taking this victory as an insult for them. With the specific objective of humiliating me and sullying my image, they have registered a complaint in Konaje police station,' he claimed.
