Kundapur, Oct 24: A group of robbers entered a house and forcibly decamped with cash and jewelery from a house at Hallihole in Kundapur taluk on Thursday night, October 23.
Farmer Raghavendra Rao(55) a resident of Hallihole Chakramaidan Irige was celebrating Deepavali with his wife Prabhavathi and son Kiran when a group of 10-12 robbers entered the house at 8.30 pm all of a sudden, stabbed Raghavendra and fled with gold and cash from the house.
The robbers who wore masks sprinkled Chloroform and demanded cash and jewelery by showing knives. As Raghavendra Rao resisted, they assaulted and stabbed him. They later ransacked the house and scattered the items all over. Then they broken open an almirah and robbed jewelery from there. It is said that the robbers took Rs 35 thousands cash besides the gold chain weighing 25 grams, a gold plate and a golden hip belt.
Raghavendra's son a student of MBA in Bangalore had come home to celebrate Deepavali with the family.
The robbers sprayed the a chemical that made the inmates of the house to lose their consciousness. As it was not so effective, they stabbed Raghavendra. They also disconnected two land line phones, pushed cloth pieces in their mouths, tied their hands and legs while robbing.
It is said that few bikes were parked on the hill near Raghavendra's house during Navarathri festival and the robbers had gone back when the dogs had barked.
Some sandals were found there the next day. The involvement of local people in the incident is also suspected.
Raghavendra who was stabbed in his stomach was rushed to Kundapur hospital. The naxal affected region of Hallihole has houses far away from one another. The house of Raghavendra is about half a kilometer
away from its nearest house.
The robbers were said to have been conversing in Hindi and Kannada during the robbery.
Shankarnarayana police have registered the case.
