Mangalore: Stage set for semifinals of Wilfy Rebimbus memorial singing contest

Mangalore, Oct 24 : Jeppu Parish Gears Up for Konkani Singing Contest on 26th October 2014 with an objective to continue to keep the name of Konkani legend- Wilfy Rebimbus shining in the Konkani world and to impart the vast treasure left back by him to our future generation and for the Welfare Fund Jeppu Prarish, Jeppu Parish yet again, gears up for the ‘Inter-Parish Wilfy Rebimbus Memorial’ Konkani singing Competition on 26th October 2014 for the fourth time since its inception.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Parish Priest Fr. Nelson D’Almeida said that this year there has been a tremendous response for this competition compared to the past 3 years. Entries have been more than last year and we are happy to see the enthusiasm among the contestants along with their parents and parish members. More than 90 contestants are eager to bag the prestigious trophy. This spirit and enthusiasm of participants has given a boost to the Jeppu parishioners to try and make various innovative changes and make this contest year by year better. The organizing committee has chosen qualified judges who are experienced and capable in judging the talented singers and choose the best voices for the GRAND FINALE to be held on 16th November 2014, at Jeppu Church open grounds.


Meena Rebimbus, Fr Pius James D’souza, OCD and Alwyn Noronha have been chosen as judges for the contest.

The first round of the competition will begin at 3.30 pm in the Jeppu Seminary Hall and there will be no entry fee. Registrations will be taken from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm only. The organizers request all the participants to kindly be on time and register their names at the Registration counter.


The chief guest for this evening will be Eminent Konkani poet and Sahithya Academy Awardee Melvyn Rodrigues, Director (operations) of Daijiworld Media Pvt. Ltd. He is Wilfy’s great admirer and Rebimbus family’s close associate.

The Jeppu parishioners look forward to the whole hearted support and cooperation of all Wilfy’s fans to witness this upcoming musical fiesta and lend a cheering hand to all participants, thus encouraging their singing talent and love for Konkani.

    We will never get Wilfy Rebimbus genius again, he was once in a life time composer & singer. May his soul rest in peace and his music live for ever.
