Mangalore : 18 Students to write SSLC exams in Tulu

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (RJP)

Mangalore, Oct 24: 18 students from Mangalore city are going to write exams in Tulu in the forthcoming 2014-2015 SSLC examinations.

Various efforts were made in the past to make Tulu a third language in schools without any takers though the government had allowed making Tulu a third language from the academic year 2010-2011. The support never came from concerned quarters. Now Pompei High school from Urwa store has taken a concrete step in the right direction with its 18 students volunteering to write SSLC 2014-2015 examinations in Tulu.

The model exam papers have been already submitted to SSLC board pending approval. The code number allotted for Tulu by the SSLC board is 69. The code number is compulsory for all the subjects. The list of students appearing for the exams has also been sent to the board.

It should be remembered that the government wanted to introduce Tulu as a third language in at least 100 schools. The text books sent to various schools were never utilized as students to take up Tulu as the third language were not found.

With the first batch of 18 students now being trained to write exams in Tulu, the task has become easier. With Sanskrit and Hindi, the students of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have a choice for the third language in Tulu.
Tulu Sahithya Academy says that it is taking initiatives to introduce Tulu in schools including private schools with the direct distribution of text books from the academy.

It is obvious that the apathy will not remain the same from now. But the schools have to work hard to find trained teachers. Then only students will show interest.

Mr. Prabhu mamu, religion and language entirely different concepts.nothing to do with each other.Religion we follow from our parents. God is one for everybody. but, for language it is not uniform. If every country ask us to learn their own language.moreover country like India where each area having their own language.our entire life will finish with learning languages.

Tulu and Konkani in Kudla, Kasargod and odipu districts took a back seat after the formation karnataka. Although Tulu Nadu should have been created yet its pending. Kannada has been imposed on Tuluvas and konkanas. Tulu and Konkani are older than Kannada and immediately Tulu Nadu should be created.

Very good comment in true spirit. When govt has facilitated for populorising Tulu language only Christian run school has shown the real interest in the right direction. It is really a big shame for many schools run by Tulu speaking people. We had Tulu speaking MP like Sadananda Gowda,J.P.Hegde,Nalin Kumar Kateel,Veerappa Moily etc., but these people never made any concerted attempt to include Tulu language in the 8th schedule of the constitution. Here Konkani speaking people have shown the real initittive to popularise Tulu really makes person like me proud.I love Tulu as much I like my mother tongue Konkani and grown speaking Tulu language.Really it is a very sweet language. Few days back I had been at Mangalore and when I visited a shop, sales man notieced the way I speak Tulu language and asked me to which community I belong.I replied that I am a GSB.He could not believe because of the fluency of Tulu I was speaking. Then he invited the attentioin of co saleman and asked same question ie., which community I belong. He noticed the colorof the thread I was wearing in my right wrist and said that I am a GSB.Because he was a GSB and speaking very good Tulu.At least now.Karnataka Konkani Aademy should take up the issue to work for inclusion o Tulu language in the 8th schedule of the constituton. If possible to lead a delegation to teh PM Sri Modiji directly to fulfil the desire.

SO LONG LANGUAGE WON'T ABLE TO PROVIDE EMPLOYMENT. I WILL NOT SUPPORT ANY LANGUAGE. FOR EXAMPLE IF I STUDY IN KONKANI WHO WILL GIVE EMPLOYMENT.IT IS NOTHING BUT STUPIDITY FIGHTING FOR LANGUAGE. WE SHOULD BE BROAD MINDED NOT NARROW MINDED LIKE A FROG IN THE WELL.

    Unduu bodchithandaandh!

But if the Tulu Sahithya academy really wants to encourage students to take up Tulu as their 3rd language then the exam board should award each student minimum of seventy percent marks just for attending the Tulu exam. Then most of average students will jump up to take the Tulu as their subject.

Christian Missionaries during the british time started to give importance to kannada in school..

Christian Missionaries (German Mission) started news papers in Kannada n Tulu during their time..

Now again a Christian School has Introduced Tult in their Academic Curriculum...

What about schools run by our communities?? We complain about western system of education but none of our communities follow what they propagate.. Shame on us..

Kudos n thanks to Christian Missionaries and their wonderful work for Tulu Nadu..

If u wear a black glass, the world looks black. If u mind set is negative, the world is always pessimistic to u. If one's mind is full of venom, only poison will come from them.

Narayanan Laxmanan, Udupi has appreciated the good work done by Pompei High School encouraging students to write SSLC exam in Tulu language and also missionary started Tulu n Kannada newspaper during British time.

Missioneries at least served mankind unlike British came to rule, loot.
