Bhatkal, Oct 25: Eidul Fitr was celebrated in Bhatkal on Tuesday after completing 30 days of fast. Since moon was not sighted on Sunday evening, Muslims of Bhatkal had to complete 30 days' fasting.
More than 15,000 Muslims participated in the Prayer. People were seen hugging each other and wishing "Eid Mubarak' after the prayers.
In view of the recent disturbances in Mangalore, heavy police force was deployed in Bhatkal and security arrangement was very tight.
Additional SP Vikas Kumar and circle police inspector C T Jayakumar also camped in Eidgah during the Namaz. All the traffic movement was stopped 100 metres away from the Eidgah and the people who wanted to go Bunder Road and Circle were diverted through another route.
A procession was taken out from Jamia Masjid to Eidgah. Bhatkal's Dy Qazi Moulana Abdul Azeem Qazia, Moulana Abdur Rab Nadvi and Moulana Abdul Aleem Qasimi led the procession.
