Madikeri, Oct 21: Former MP and veteran Congress leader, H Vishwanath, who has often hit headlines for wrong reasons, has been in the news again after passing the comment that the leader of a political party needs more of seriousness than capacity. He observed that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has this quality in abundance.
Vishwanath was responding to questions posed by media persons at a press conference held here on Monday. Vishwanath also made a strong bid for handing over leadership of Congress to Priyanka Gandhi, who he felt was more suitable for the post. 'Even in the past, I had taken a strong stance in favour of adopting Priyanka Gandhi as the party leader. Others are now slowly realizing the truth in my stand, and coming out in support of it,' he claimed.
When press persons sought to know whether Rahul Gandhi is not a capable leader, Vishwanath felt seriousness is more important virtue in politics than capacity. By adding that Narendra Modi has this quality, he indirectly undermined the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. However, he felt that BJP could win large number of seats in the assembly elections held in two states, because of anti incumbency factor, and not due to the existence of pro-Modi wave.
Vishwanath however, said that Narendra Modi was brought to power on the basis of false promises he made through social websites, and not on the basis of popular support. 'During the first 150 days of Modi's administration, conscious citizens of the country have come to realize that his promises were fake,' he analyzed.
Vishwanath also accused Baba Ramdev of stashing huge funds representing black money in foreign banks.
