Stray dogs maul 17-month-old boy in Bangalore

Bangalore, Oct 21 (DHNS) : A 17-month-old boy was attacked by a pack of dogs in Anjananagar area on Monday and was seriously injured.

According to eye-witnesses, Kumaraswamy was mauled by a pack of four to six dogs when he stepped out of his house at 6 am. His parents rushed him to KIMS hospital for the treatment, where the hospital authorities reportedly refused to treat the boy.

Later, the child was admitted in KC General Hospital, Malleswaram, where he is undergoing treatment.

Paediatrician, KC General Hospital, Dr Lakshmipathy said that the child is being administered with antibiotics and that he is out of danger. "He will be kept under observation at hospital for two days. He is being given all the necessary treatment so that he does not get any infections," he said.

Meanwhile, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) blamed the victim's parents for the incident and held the garbage menace responsible for the increasing stray dog attacks.

Joint Director (Animal Husbandry), BBMP, Dr Shivarama Bhat told Deccan Herald that they are implementing Animal Birth Control (ABC) and Anti-Rabies Vaccination ( ARV) programmes in all the wards.

"There are three lakh stray dogs in our city and about 80 per cent of them are already vaccinated. This year, the NGOs we have tied up with has implemented ABC in 20 packages. Another 20 packages has been tendered and work is in progress," he added.

DO not blame dogs. Blame BBMC officials are ready to spend money on compensation rather than spending money on eradicating the menace of street dogs.

Poor child what pain it has to suffer because of stray Dogs.why did they refuse to treat the child because of Money?I wish the same happened to their child and someone refuses.I too am a animal freind to an certain extent.but stray Dogs attaching human biengs and children is no go.It should be treated as to be.what use of a stray dog on road?To a certain amount humans are also responsible to their extreme Population.feeding them out of humanity, love and they are in search of Food go to places where garabe is dumped. There are sometimes People who search rest food, rest garbage to sell plastic etc.and conflict between Dogs and human is there.
one more Thing which some People may not like to hear but it is there. That make Dogs to attach humans or small children.Long back I heard in govt.hospitals when operated, rest human parts are being disposed in garbage (like Amputation ,finer, Hand or..in Bangalore)and Dogs are naturally are first ones to it.This I heard as one of my relatives had to walk through this path some years back.whether it is still existing I dont know.Normally it has to be officially d and to be burried or as per ritual. No wonder stray Dogs are increasing.Bann it

This is not the first instance where a child has been mauled by stray dogs. This menace is on the increase in many areas in Karnataka. It is time that these animals are put to rest thus saving the lives of children and in some cases even adults. Lives are important and precious and the lives of human beings are more important than animals. It is time that realistic decisions are taken to destroy the packs of dogs and save lives.

In this particular instance serious action should be taken against the hospital authorities who refused to treat the child.

Not stray Dog menace please.... menace of the 'stray dog lovers' ...they have a misplaced love for dogs! They neither feed them and keep them... nor do they want them to be 'put to sleep'...they want the dogs to be let free on the streets and they call themselves dog lovers!! We do not see this anywhere else in this world!!

What a mess of human rights and children's rights?
To please Maneka Gandhi and Animal rights, humans life is put under great risks.
Agreed, animals also have rights to live but why should we ALLOW THEM TO HARM US?
In cities driving two wheelers at late night has become nightmare for these stray dogs.
WHO SAYS DOGS DON'T HARM INNOCENTS?
Animals should be allowed only under somebody's care, not otherwise!

These dog $#it lovers need to be destroyed a lesson and not the dogs. Put them all (along with Menaka and similar activists) into a cage along with these dogs. Only then they will learn a lesson. None of these activists have done anything in their life for human beings, the hungry ones or the destitute. They want to keep the dogs on their head. They will never come forward to help such children who are attacked by stray dogs. But they will go out of the way to help the dirty dogs just because decent people don't object. these dog lovers need to be treated equal to terrorists because of the harm they do to civilised people.

Stray dog menance is haunting Bangaloreans since last 5 years, but sadly nothing is being done to control these dogs either by BBMP or by the State Govt Animal husbandry dept..

Media highlights this issue only when small kids are bitten, but again the issue gets brushed inside under the carpet.

Wish this time around the authorities take some stringent action against the reccuring issue of stray dogs

In my great country of ancient culture and civilization cows, cattle, serpents, monkeys, dogs, rats and other animals have great respect and provided protection. But human life has neither respect nor value. Dogs can bite, maul, kill and even eat human beings. But human beings cannot kill dogs!!! It will be a criminal offence!!! Mera Desh Mahan!!!

You have no imagination of the pain the little child has to undergo. If the dog had bitten you or your child, you would have understood. When you kill chicken, lamb, or even a mosquito, you dont think of the pain they have to undergo. You must realise that nature is created such that stronger animal is supposed to live on weaker one. So dont give your sermons on pain etc. when you dont understand the pain of the fellow human being.
