Mumbai: Karnire Vishwanath Shetty takes over mantle of Buntara Sangha Mumbai

Mumbai, Oct 20: The 86th annual general body meeting of Buntara Sangha Mumbai, which has over time emerged as a leading organization working for the unity and welfare of Bunt community, was held on Sunday October 19 at Srimati Radhabai T Bhandary auditorium at Buntara Bhavan in Bhandary Estate, Kurla (east) here. The meeting was chaired by president, Shankar B Shetty.

The Sangha works to bring together Bunts settled in the metro, conserve their culture, and vibe to their aspirations. At the general body meeting, vice president, Karnire Vishwanath Shetty, joint secretary, Ultoor Mohandas Shetty, joint treasurer, Praveen B Shetty, working president of women's wing, Lata P Shetty, working president of youth wing, Shivaprasad Shetty, working president of S M Shetty Education Trust, Jayaram N Shetty, and working president of sports committee, Mahesh S Shetty, were seated at the dais.

Election of office bearers for the next term, 2014 and 2017, was held at the meeting. Karnire Vishwanath Shetty was elected as the new president of the Sangha, while Lata Jayaram Shetty was chosen as the working president of women's wing. Vivek V Shetty was elected as working president of youth wing. All these elections were held unanimously.
Sangha president, Shankar B Shetty, who inaugurated the meeting by lighting the lamp, guided the proceedings thereafter. Honorary general secretary of the Sangha, Sadashiv B Shetty, who presented report of the Sangha for the last year, also read out a report on the programmes undertaken during this period. Honorary treasurer, Sathish N Shetty, presented annual accounts of the Sangha. The annual report of S M Shetty Education Trust, which is managed by the Sangha, was placed before the meeting by secretary B R Shetty. Secretary, Chandrahas K Shetty, provided details of higher education committee, while Vasant Shetty explained about educational social development initiatives of the Sangha.
In his address, Shankar Shetty exhorted members to work towards achieving the goal of the Sangha to turn it into a model by striving to bring unity among the community. 'Apart from strengthening our organizational capacity, bringing together Bunts from all over the world into our wings, we should encourage talents within the community, pool youth power, and nurture heritage and culture. I thank everyone for providing me an opportunity to lead the Sangha for the last three years, and wish that it will go from strength to strength under the leadership of the next president,' he added.
In his address, newly elected president, Karnire Vishwanath Shetty, thanked the members for reposing confidence on him and promised to discharge his duties in a unique way towards achieving progress of the Sangha and help it to reach further heights.
The newly elected office bearers were congratulated by outgoing president, Shankar Shetty, Lata Prabhakar Shetty, and Shivaprasad Shetty, by presenting bouquets. Returning officer, D K Shetty, announced the list of newly elected office bearers.
Shankar Shetty honoured Dr Prabhakar Shetty, working president of membership augmentation committee, Dr Prabhakar Shetty B, who had enrolled maximum number of members for the Sangha, as well as M J Shetty and Kishore Kumar Kutyar, who were chosen for the best bunt volunteer awards. The city regional office of the Sangha here was declared as the best regional committee, and its office bearers were honoured with mementos by former president of the Sangha, Aikala Harish Shetty. Karnire Vishwanath Shetty read out the list of people chosen for honours. Thereafter, cash and mementos were handed over to students of the community with brilliant academic achievements to their credit.
Senior statesman, M D Shetty, trustees, Sudhakar Hegde, B Vivek Shetty, Nagriguthu Vivek Shetty, Bombay Bunts Association president, Shyam N Shetty, many other highly placed Bunt community leaders, working presidents, as well as office bearers and members of various regional and sub-committees of the Sangha were present. Many of them spoke on the occasion and wished the Sangha well. At the beginning, Vinoda R Chowta rendered the prayer. Honorary general secretary, Sadashiva B Shetty, proposed vote of thanks. The general body concluded with the singing of the national anthem.

Karnire Vishwanath Shetty, who is a native of Karnire Bola Nandabettu, was a brilliant student and completed his degree course through Vijaya College Mulky. He later came to Mumbai in search of greener pastures, and presently happens to be one among the few young hotelliers who have scaled dizzy heights of success here. He was instrumental in setting up Vasai Taluk Hotel Association to bring the hotelliers together, and worked as its founder president. He also became the founder president of Tulunada Bunts Vasai Taluk and became famous due to his social initiatives in the region. He is an gifted organizer, and has been active in various organizations and institutions. He encourages youngsters wherever he goes, and has been a top order organizer, patron and philanthropist. He has created history in Buntara Sangha Mumbai by enrolling unprecedented number of members for it. He has been the recipient of gold medals since several years for being on the top as far as bringing new members for the Sangha is concerned. The services rendered by him as the working president of the social welfare committee of the Sangha were also unparalleled.
