Mangalore, Oct 19: Rains with heavy lightning and thunder have been reported from all parts of undivided Dakshina Kannada on Saturday.
While the Udupi district received the rains with lightning and thunder around midnight of Friday, in Mangalore city and surrounding areas, the rains had started only during Saturday evening to continue till late night. The thunders were stronger in Mangalore city. As per some reports the thunders and lightning were the heaviest of this season.
Heavy losses due to destruction of crops have also been reported.
Electricity disruptions throughout the twin districts have been reported. The most affected area was Puttur Sullia region. Subrahmanya did not have electricity supply for almost 12 hours. Puttur, Sullia, Kadaba and Mulki have received moderate rains.
In the Udupi region the rains continued till Saturday. The lightning with thunder remained with lighter rains.
As on Sunday, while few parts of the Mangalore and Udupi area have seen the brighter sun, most places are still covered with clouds. Moderate rains are not ruled out for today.
