Mumbai, Oct 17 (PTI): The city civil court in Mumbai on Friday allowed fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim to be made a party to a suit relating to a piece of land in the city which belonged to those involved in the 1993 Mumbai blasts.
"The court has today allowed to make Dawood Ibrahim a party in a case which dates back to 1996," said advocate Charanjit Chandrapal who represents the Income Tax Department.
The IT Department had attached this property following the blasts, when Dawood and many others were declared as absconding accused in the blasts case.
According to Chandrapal, the property, one among the 21 properties in the city, was put up for auction. However, later, a suit objecting to the auction was filed by Ahmed Wazir Parkar.
Chandrapal had pointed out to the court that Dawood, who is an accused in the 1993 blasts case, and CBI, Mumbai Police and municipal corporation which were `informants' with respect to the property, had not been made parties to the suit.
Accordingly, the order was passed on Friday.
