Mangalore, Oct 17: A young self-styled astrologer was found murdered in the city on the night of Wednesday October 15.
The deceased has been identified as Suresh (22), a native of Sagar in Shimoga district, who reportedly used to eke out a living by making astrological predictions to those who sought his services. He was found to have suffered deep wound to his head, ostensibly inflicted by someone by using heavy object.
Suresh had rented a room in the third floor of Singala Chamber Complex on Maidan 4th cross in the city on October 12. His body was found in a lifeless state at around 11.45 pm on October 15 in the lane adjacent to the said building. P Ganesh, who works as security guard for the building was the first to notice the body and alert the building owners.
It is gathered that Suresh had approached the same building for renting a room along with two others, at about 8 am on October 12. However, all the three were sent back as no rooms were vacant then. On the same night, two persons approached the building staff and took room no 2 on rent. On next morning, another friend of the duo joined them, it is said. All the three told the staff that they hail from Shimoga and making astrological predictions was their profession.
On the next day, the security guard advised these three persons to join four persons from Gadag who stayed in room no 10. As such, seven persons started staying together in room No 10.
The security guard left to attend to his ailing children and returned to the building at 8.45 pm on October 15. After dinner, Ganesh, who flashed torchlighth around the building, noticed that a person was lying on the lane next to the building. He informed owner of the building, Nilesh Singala, after which they approached the person and noticed that the body belonged to Suresh who had hired a room in the building.
It is suspected that those who were among the roommates of Suresh would have killed him with some weapon. Some said they had seen Suresh in the evening. A case stands filed in Bunder police station, and investigation has been taken up.
