Mangalore, Oct 16: They say love knows no boundaries nor barriers of religion, region or caste. A Christian girl and a Hindu boy, despite several obstacles and objections, tied the marriage knot at Arya Samaj, on Thursday, October 16.
In spite of repeated requests by the mother of 21-year old Sonia D’Souza to come back home spurning her beloved, the girl stood firm in her stance to marry Hindu boy, Roshan M S (24) proclaiming she was 'marrying him of her own wish'.
Earlier, the parents of the girl hailing from Eliyarpadav filed a missing complaint at Konaje police station as soon she moved out of the house to marry Roshan from Bantwal. At the marriage venue, two factions from both communities gathered until the police and parents arrived on the spot.
A heated debate ensued between Sonia and her mother prior to the marriage ceremony, with the mother making incessant efforts to convince the daughter to come back home. The girl told her mother that she could not lead her life without Roshan.
Kadri and Konaje police landed at the place and recorded the statements of the boy and the girl, finally dismissing the mother's missing complaint.
Police told the brother of Sonia that the girl was an adult and marriage was her prerogative. The police also advised Roshan to file a complaint following an alleged murder threat by Sonia’s father.
After all the legal procedures ended, the couple was married at Arya Samaj in a brief ritual as against the usual lengthy process of marriage ceremony.
