Melwin Fernandes walks out of jail, finally

Daijiworld Media Network - Kuwait

Kuwait, Oct 17: Finally, a sigh of relief for all those who followed the sad news of Melwin Fernandes, who was jailed for last eight months for carrying a medicine banned in Kuwait without his knowledge. Perhaps the biggest relief is for his wife, kids and other family members who have spent anxious moments over the past several months, leaving no stone unturned to get him released.

Finally, Melwin is out of jail. He was released on Thursday October 16 at 9 pm, well in advance of the scheduled release. There is no doubt that unflinching efforts from friends, families, community organisations and others, and particularly his wife Carol, have helped him to come out of jail. Since he was innocent, prayers and support poured in from all corners of the world through various media including social networking sites.

Melwin with his wife Carol after the release

Speaking to daijiworld, Melwin Fernandes said that he paid the price for helping someone he knew for the past few years, but never imagined it would have such serious consequences. Overwhelmed with the support he got from around the world, he had no words to thank all the people who helped him, and stood by his family during the time of extreme difficulty.

An emotional Carol Fernandes, who spoke to daijiworld late night, could not hold back her tears of joy, and said she did not know how to react to this great moment. "This is perhaps the happiest day of my life, my kids would have been happy if they were here, but they are back home. They never knew that their father was in jail."

Carol Fernandes landed in Kuwait from Karkala three weeks ago, after Elias Sanctis sponsored her trip to Kuwait. Tracy Sanctis accompanied her to guide her in Kuwait.

Several individuals and organisation extended support to Melwin, including Pascal Pinto, KCWA, Fr Noel, the Indian Embassy, and many more. They have reportedly helped Melwin in getting released from jail.

Carol Fernandes will issue a media release in the coming days with full details.

Earlier update:

Melwin Fernandes set to walk out from Kuwait jail soon

Daijiworld Media Network-Kuwait

Mangalore, Oct 16: Melwin Fernandes who was in Kuwait jail for unknowingly carrying a parcel of banned medicine is expected to be released from jail on Sunday, Oct 19.

Hailing from Karkala, Fernandes was arrested by authorities at Kuwait airport on February 9, 2014, for carrying and possessing the prohibited drug tramadol used as pain killer.

Speaking exclusively to Daijiworld from Kuwait, Carol Fernandes, wife of Melwin Fernandes said, “Release formalities are underway, since Thursday, the last working day of the week for Kuwait. There are still some formalities which are pending. If all goes well, he will be out from jail latest by Sunday”.

"There are all possibilities of Melwin coming out of jail, today at 4 pm we were asked to complete the formalities. I am hopeful that Melwin will be out of jail soon. Thanks to each and everyone who prayed and supported us in this case", she said.

Carol Fernandes had flown in from Karkala to fight for her husband's release three weeks ago, leaving her two little children back home. “I am surprised that I have started receiving 'congratulatory' messages from morning itself. I am pained that wrong messages were spread around the social networking sites and Whatsapp about my husband. I am thankful for all those for good wishes, but kindly wait for Melwin to come out officially”, she said requesting to continue to pray for him and the family.

"Once he comes back, I will convey all the details to everyone through Daijiworld", she informed.

Melvin is very very fortunate to get out of the prison of an alien country for a mistake he committed unwittingly!!

But surprised to see majority of comments praising an unknown 'God', but none praising or even taking the name of the living people (instruments) which this 'God' used to get him his 'freedom'!!! I salute the people who worked behind the scene to make this happen for Melvin!!!

I thing there should be a rule that every passenger all over the world should give a list of items they are carrying and hand over the same to the air port authorities, who should examine the same and send the list to the country where the items will be carried, who can in return reply whether the item is banned or not. If the item is banned then the passenger can hand over the banned item to the respective authorities without being filing case. This may be time consuming but looking at the positive side this will save many innocent people and the time and work of authorities as well.

Passengers ,please do not carry any thing for others especially Medicines and Packets whose contents are not known to You.
Further, do not combine your Baggage with any known/unknown passenger to help them with their Excess baggage as you may land in problem in case some constraband/banned item is found in it as the Airline check-in details will show your Name
along with the bagg tag number which will be reflected in the Passenger manifest.
This will be displayed on the Baggage Tag also.
In fact the other day 'the suspected Bomb scare ' was also due to the Passenger carrying a neighbour's parcel.

Pain of Mrs. Carol, what she went through is what every Mangalorean women understood. The Pain of Mr.Melwin is understood by every Mangalorean men working outside. Family is the most important bonding in Life. Anyone can be trapped in any situation in life, unexpectedly. But God has plans for us. Since Mr. Melwin is good, Life has changed for him. So many helped him, and we all prayed, and we must. How greatest Joy is this for Melwin to meet his Wife, There is nothing greater than this. God set something to learn from this to everyone. God Bless everyone. Always Keep doing Good. Cheers to all.

    Dear Lancy

There is only one mediator between God and man i.e, Jesus. Lord Jesus himself says whatever you ask in my name it shall be given. He is the same y'day, today and tomorrow. He is available for u and everybody, because he is the only one paid for our sins not by money but by his precious blood and reconciled our relation with God the Father. He is knocking at the door, u have to open and receive him in your heart.
He further says, I will not leave you never forsake you.

My humble request to readers, please read bible everyday and know the truth and the truth shall set you free. More u read more you will fill with wisdom and knowledge and u will have a victorious life. All signs around the world indicates coming of Jesus at hand, R u ready to go with him?

    A wonderful news indeed.
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal & destroy. the enemy comes to give sorrow , affliction & destroy our peace but God says He will make the crooked path straight and give us the treasures in darkness. Just this morning I received a message in WhattsApp there will be a hearing of Melvin's case in Kuwait today & if found guilty will be jailed for 15 yrs & requesting to pray that God will grant him justice & set him free. This message must have reached so many people for prayers & God the most Benevolent & Merciful has heard the prayers of so many who have prayed for Melwyn who with the intention of helping his neighbor was wrongly implicated for carrying the medicines that is banned. Carol be assured of all or prayers and Your family will receive all the blessings in many folds that was snatched by the power of darkness. Do keep us d on this further and let us also pray for the person who was responsible to bring so much of agony & pain in Melvin & his family. God is good all the time & all the time God is good. Amen

Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever.
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power and the glory,
    The victory and the majesty
For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours
Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and You are exalted as head over all.
Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all.
In Your hand is power and might
In Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.

Now therefore, our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious name for releasing our beloved Roman Catholic true innocent brother Melwyn Fernandes and gifting him a new life and showering bountiful blessings on his innocent family back home in Karkala, India.
