Udupi, Oct 19: The repair works on the National Highway 17 which were pending for long owing to incessant rains have now been resumed, said assistant executive engineer of National Highway department Ramesh.
The big potholes on the highway are being filled in and are patched with bitumen. Works under Mangalore and Kundapur sub-divisions have already begun. He further said that a total of Rs 1 crore is required to give a new facelift to the highway. Request has been made with the government to release funds for this work.
However, rains are still a threat for the works. Though there is a short respite in the last couple of days, whether is still cloudy and are rains are expected at any time. If it rains once again, then repair works will be stopped or the pace will be slowed down, he added.
