New Delhi, Oct 14: Congress President Sonia Gandhi has promised that she will talk to Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah to consider making Tulu as an official language.
She was talking to the delegation which met her in New Delhi recently.
The delegation included the members from The Karnataka Sangha New Delhi, Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy, tiger dancing troupe, central minister GM Siddeshwara, former ministers M Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes.
The delegation led by Vasantha Shetty Bellare demanded that Tulu language should be included in the eighth schedule of the constitution, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) should set up a chair for Kannada studies, Rs. 4 crore required for the chair should be released immediately and the chair should start functioning from the Rajyotsava day.
The traditional tiger dance from the coastal region was performed where minister Siddeshwara even played the drums for few minutes.
Nagaraja C M, Secretary, Hemalatha MC, Joint secretary of the Karnataka Sangha and Ashok Rai, Secretary, Tulu Siri New Delhi were also present.
