Mangalore, Oct 14: SACAIM-2014, the International Conference on Advanced IT, Engineering and Management was inaugurated today at 9:15 am at the St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT) Auditorium on Tuesday October 14.
SACAIM is an undertaking of the Post Graduate School of Information Technology and Bioinformatics arm of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), in concert with the Computer Society of India (CSI). The School of Information Technology has been rated one of the top 50 among the 800 technical institutions in India and has also won the top IBM Mentorship Award, by the International Business Machines (IBM) Center of Excellence for the year 2014.
Professor Santhosh Rebello, Dean of Information Technology, welcomed the gathering and in his opening remarks said that IT should bring System Dynamics toward integrating business and social systems.
Fr Denzil Lobo, Rector of St Aloysius College and the Director of AIMIT, encouraged the students to get into the mode of Systems Thinking. He said that the students need to have an open mind that is receptive to change and creative thinking and be ready with the required expertise to make use of the opportunities.
The chief guest Dr Ramdas Pandurang Pai, professor and HOD, Hospital Administration, Yenepoya University in his inaugural address motivated the students to build on their communication skills, nurture their personality and encouraged them to excel in what they are good at, quoting several books and recommended reading.
Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal of St Aloysius College was the guest of honor. Fr Swebert stressed on the value and importance of the students of Information Technology and how they can and should promote innovation. He encouraged the students to have a good self-image with self-confidence and move ahead with a positive attitude, and acumen for justice.
Dr Brian Pereira, a world renowned Nephrologist was also among the dignitaries as a guest. Dr Brian, the current president and CEO of Vistera, Inc. and an adjunct professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine in Massachusetts, tipped off the students with some important guidelines in life – “luck, ask, risk and make sure you get what you deserve” and related them to some live examples of success.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by the convenor of the program professor Kavitha Balamurugan.
The event that was flagged off by the inaugural and will continue through October 14 with parallel tracks running to process 70 research papers from 20 academic institutions. The valedictory function is scheduled at 4:15 pm on Wednesday October 15.
