Panaji, Oct 13 (IANS): Congress whip in the Rajya Sabha Shantaram Naik Monday said the presiding officers of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha should impress upon the media to give proper coverage to parliamentary proceedings.
Naik was speaking at the two-day All India Whips' Conference, being held in Goa and attended by whips of political parties in parliament and other states and union territories.
He said the presiding officers of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha should impress upon the media to give proper coverage to parliamentary proceedings, because "if an actress parliamentarian just waits for her car outside Parliament House, her photograph appears on the front pages of dailies, but if a member gives a well-studied speech, he finds no mention".
Naik also called for setting up of a political training institute in New Delhi and subsequently in state capitals, to train the legislators.
